What Are The Benefits Of Oral Appliance Therapy?

Hello, I’m Dr. Tom Drake, and I’ve been a dentist in the Kansas City area for over 40 years. In the last six years, I’ve concentrated my studies on the treatment of people with snoring and sleep apnea using oral appliances. An oral appliance has been proven to be a very effective alternative treatment to a CPAP machine in patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.

Oral appliances fitted by a qualified dentist have many benefits over the traditional, older CPAP machines. An oral appliance is far more convenient to use versus a traditional CPAP machine. The oral device is small, comfortable, and easy to use. They require no additional supplies or electricity, which makes them easy to sleep with, great for travel, and easy to maintain and care for. CPAP machines can be loud, keeping your sleeping partner awake at night. An oral appliance not only keeps you from snoring, but oral appliances produce no additional sound, giving both you and your partner a good night’s sleep.

Lastly, oral appliances are cost effective. Most of the time, oral appliances are covered by medical insurance, especially if you have already tried CPAP therapy and it was covered by your insurance. If you would like to learn more about the benefits of an oral appliance over a CPAP, my recommendation to you is to call our office and set up a consultation as soon as possible to see if an oral appliance is right for you. My team and I look forward to your visit.
